A lot of people are introduced to the pleasures of the Disney parks as kids, continue visiting as adults and just accept having this bliss in their lives. My husband and I were not so lucky, both of us being raised in families where a holiday was in a caravan on the coast if we were lucky. So, zip forward a few years to 2004, hubby and I have been married almost 4 years and we've just been told that we can't have kids naturally. That's fine, we've already discussed adoption so we're not really fazed... however, (and some may call it manipulative but I prefer the term 'directional nudger') I decided that perhaps we deserved a holiday to help with our disappointment. We basically went from the fertility clinic to the travel agent. I was expecting the usual 'discussion' on where to go when one of us (we can't remember who) casually mentioned Florida... Of course we expected it to be well out of our price range, we were talking Disney after all, but we were very pleasantly surprised and booked it. We adore thrill rides and figured that we'd get those in spades plus the bonus of good weather.....
A few (too long) months later and it's September 25th, we're on a plane headed to Sanford airport, Orlando... more than a little worried as hurricane Jeanne is trying to beat us there! We land, get ushered through immigration and luggage collection, our car keys are virtually thrown at us and the airport is closed. So we're dealing with the excitement of being in Florida and also with the fact that all the tolls are wide open, there's no-one about and dark grey clouds are hovering above. We find our way to the Days Inn Lakeside, check in and are told we have approximately 1 hour to get some supplies in as the whole town in going into 'lockdown'... But that's all for future posts :) All I will say is that once we did hit the parks, we had a whale of a time, so much so that we arrived home and immediately booked up again for the following May!
So, in a nutshell I can thank infertility for the pixie dust that was sprinkled over my life, a strange gratitude granted, but this cloud most certainly had a Disney lining.
